Member Spotlight – Meet The Ohneck Family

Tell us all about yourself!

Jim and Sue have been married for 18 years, have three adult children who live in Oklahoma, Dayton OH, and Brooklyn NY. They have two grandchildren; four and one, who live in NY as well. Jim and Sue have a beautiful dog, Molly–a therapy dog that visits the hospital and enjoys all workers/patients.

Sue is now retired after working about 30 years overseeing sales and business development for the US and Canada. She loves pottery, which she attends twice a week, as well as volunteering to hold NICU babies at the hospital. Sue also travels to New York a lot to help with the grandchildren. Jim is the CEO of Epoch Lasers LLC, but while he isn’t actively traveling for work, he enjoys music–playing the guitar, writing music and performing occasionally at open mic nights. He also sings at Church of the Holy Angels in Bainbridge. Many years ago he actually performed at Wembley!

What's a food or dish that you have tried and would recommend to others?

Sue recommends “Ottolenghi’s Chicken with Caramelized Onion & Cardamom Rice” which is from one of Ottolenghi’s Cookbooks. Sue mentions that not only is it easy to prep in the morning (if you have a busy day ahead of you) and serve in the evening, but making a large batch is great for leftovers too!

Why did your family decide to join Wembley?

Jim and Sue originally joined Wembley for the pool and fitness center. They have been lifelong members before Dave had even bought the club! Sue loves the fact that Wembley offers many different fitness classes, especially the fact that the instructors give options to how the workout can fit your body’s needs. Sue is a frequent member at Wembley coming to classes almost everyday unless she’s traveling! They have been so impressed with how the club has come along since Dave and Kelly took over.

“The transition of the club is phenomenal and appreciate what everyone has done for the club since then.”

Sue mentions that it’s really nice as someone who is retired, to meet new friends of all ages at Wembley. She has developed friendships with other members and looks forward to seeing them at classes, as well as at Wembley in general. Both Jim and Sue love the community that Wembley has built and love watching everyone at Wembley enjoy the club itself.

Staff Spotlight – Meet Sophie Schoen

Fitness Instructor

FUN FACT

Sophie did a ton of traveling in her college years, from exploring and eating her way through Europe to teaching children English in the jungles of Thailand. She even climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa in 2018; which is the tallest freestanding mountain in the world.

In addition to teaching yoga, Sophie is a licensed Registered Dietitian and loves helping her clients take a root cause approach to their health ailments.

Sophie is a dog mom, Cleveland native, and is the owner of a fixer-upper in the Chagrin Falls/Bainbridge area!

FAVORITE EXERCISE

“Oh man, I can’t choose one because I am someone who always needs to switch things up to stay interested! Just like if you come to one of my yoga classes, none of them are ever the same!”

Sophie loves hiking, walking, weight lifting, and yoga (of course!). Once in a while, she will get the motivation to run! Sophie finds that she feels the strongest when she is including variety to her exercise routine; keeping her interested and engaged allows her to listen to her body on a day to day basis. Some days, when her energy levels are lower, incline walks seem to do just the job! On days where Sophie has more energy, she loves to push herself with weightlifting, especially when working out with her husband!

You can find Sophie at Wembley teaching yoga classes.  Great rhythm, strong minds and bodies, and lots of smiles!

Wellness Tips – February is American Heart Month

Reach Out To Friends

Reach out to friends and family this February. Staying socially engaged and doing things that make your heart “feel happy” can actually make your heart healthier.

Interrupt Your Sitting

Beyond structured physical activity, it’s important to keep it moving throughout the day, as well. Make sure to stand up and stretch periodically as this can help improve your blood circulation and reduce your risk of blood clots.

Wellness Tools

Epoch Laser Therapy: By Jim Ohneck CEO of Epoch Lasers, LLC

What originated as a “healing hands” design, has turned into a use for all parts of the body. Jim Ohneck, the CEO of Epoch Lasers, LLC, has found a new therapy for all to use; especially for post workout recovery! If you’re an avid workout person/athlete, this may be of great use.

This therapy works by delivering targeted infrared (IR) light into the body’s tissues, where it interacts with cells to support energy production and circulation. This light-based stimulation can help reduce inflammation and promote cellular repair, which are essential components of recovery following physical strain, overuse, or everyday stress on the body. The (IR) light used in the product differs from red light therapy devices because it reaches much deeper into the tissues. Epoch Laser Therapy offers a systemic approach to recovery without the need for medications or topical gels.

As part of a holistic wellness routine, Epoch Laser Therapy can be used regularly to help the body recover more efficiently and maintain mobility and comfort. Many people incorporate it alongside movement, rest, and other supportive practices as a proactive recovery tool rather than a reactive treatment. From a few members at Wembley, working with a Mixed Martial Arts facility in Florida, to Doctor’s Office retail; Epoch Laser Therapy could be the new way to recovery.
