Member Spotlight – Meet The Powers Family

Tell us all about yourself!

Maggie and Dave and were both born and raised in Chagrin Falls, OH. “We are HS sweethearts… so naturally, we live in Chagrin Falls!” He and Maggie are both the youngest of 4, each family with 2 boys and 2 girls. They have 2 boys of our own, Johnny (almost 3) and Mac (almost 1). They are tons of fun. “Johnny is a firecracker and I’m scared because he is already finding ways to outsmart me.” You will likely see him being a dare-devil at the pool this summer!

What's a Cleveland area restaurant you'd recommend to others, and why?

“We haven’t been venturing out of the CF bubble much these days with our 2 youngsters but we love going to Batuqui for a date night! The food is authentically delicious and the vibes are cozy and charming, it never disappoints.”

Why did your family decide to join Wembley?

“We heard great things about the gym facilities and daycare from friends of ours who are members, (shoutout to the Collins fam!) When we came to tour the club ourselves, there was no question about joining!”

FUN FACT(S)

Maggie loves staying active and enjoys a wide range of activities, including walks, hikes, bike rides, skiing, attending (and now teaching) workout classes, and spending time with friends.

She is also an artist who works with watercolors and acrylics in her spare time; though that time has been limited since having children. As her kids grow, she looks forward to getting back into painting, as she truly loves creating art.

FAVORITE EXERCISE

“Biking!!! I have a passion for road cycling. I signed up for the 50-mile Velosano ride back in 2017, bought a bike to participate, and have been fully hooked since. The fresh air, beautiful sights, rolling hills, constant breeze in my face and water bottle access during the ride… it’s my JAM!”

You can find Maggie at Wembley teaching cycle, strength and barre fusion classes. Find her as a sub for now and a set schedule is soon to come! Great rhythm, strong minds and bodies, and lots of smiles!

Hydrate and Refresh

As temperatures rise, it’s important to stay hydrated. Drinking plenty of water helps maintain your body’s functions and keeps your skin looking healthy. Consider infusing your water with slices of lemon, cucumber, or mint for a refreshing twist.

Wellness Tools

Check out a couple tools below to help get your Spring activity back into action!

Why warm up beforehand?

Prepares your muscles for performance
An active warm-up improves circulation and raises muscle temperature, allowing muscles to become more flexible and reactive. When muscles are cold, they’re tighter and more vulnerable to strain, but once warmed up, they contract more effectively and produce greater power.

Reduces risk of injury
Jumping straight into intense activity places sudden stress on your joints, tendons, and ligaments. A proper warm-up eases your body into movement, helping reduce the risk of common injuries like pulls, strains, and sprains; especially in activities like tennis or running.

How to recognize signs of injury before the actual injury:

  1. Tightness that doesn’t go away
    1. Tight muscles are more likely to tear when pushed further
  2. Decreased performance or weakness
    1. Everything feels off or movements feel harder than normal
  3. Limited range of motion
    1. Joint irritation, muscle tightness, or inflammation can occur
